Cameron Courthouse
The renovations to Cameron Courthouse are our last in a series of projects we have designed for the Cameron Parish Police Jury. The courthouse was built in 1937, constructed of concrete and steel, it has stood as a symbol of Cameron and the strength of its people. Being one of the only buildings that withstood the winds from Hurricane Audrey it was imperative of us to pay tribute to the past while welcoming it into the present all the while knowing it will be here for future generations to enjoy. Cosmetic upgrades were designed for the exterior to maintain the original “Art Deco” style and steel replica windows in the same style of the original windows replaced the existing aluminum windows that were changed out in a previous renovation.
Interior renovations included adding a new stairwell and correcting existing non-code compliant areas. The existing finishes were upgraded to include terrazzo floors in the public areas, new tile floors in the office areas as well as finish updates to new restrooms constructed to comply with the new plumbing code fixture counts. The courtroom millwork was redesigned with new wood wall panels, acoustical panels, new judges’ bench and jury box which update the space while honoring the past.
